How to Stop Hyperventilating

The following techniques are designed to help you overcome hyperventilation. You can practice with these techniques now if you desire. if you experience hyperventilation, these are the breathing techniques to help you recover quickly to normal breathing.

Technique 1:

Holding your breath for as long as you comfortably can for a period of between 10 and 15 seconds and repeat this a few times. Lets try this now and see how it feels, ready? Breath in and HOLD hold hold o.k. and now slowly let it out. Good lets do it a couple more times begin breathe in and Hold hold hold and let it out. Good. One last time now. Breathe in and hold hold hold and let it all out now. Great.

Technique 2:

For this exercise, you will need a paper bag. Go ahead and get one, turning off the program for a moment or two if not, go on to breathing technique number three.

Now, this may seem a little ridiculous, but it would actually be a good idea to try out breathing in and out of a paper bag now, while you're probably feeling a sense of relaxation, then to try it when you don't know what you're doing and you are feeling scared, right. So, lets just check it out. Go ahead and take the paper bag, open it up, hold it up to your mouth and breathe in and out. Its as simple as that. Breathe this way a couple of times just to get the feel of it while I'm talking to you. What this is doing is allowing you to re-inhale the carbon dioxide that you exhaled.
