Understanding Suggestibility

Let me preface by sharing The Definition of Hypnosis.

Hypnosis is: “A Heightened State of Suggestibility”

So, any thing that gets your “Suggestibility Factor” to go up is an object that you can use for hypnosis.

What is Suggestibility?

Suggestibility is about belief. What do you believe is possible for you?

It’s amazing to me how many people are still confused by the word “hypnosis”

But it really quite simply is a state of mind that YOU create that makes the impossible seem possible. It’s no more than just getting in touch with your imagination, which is part of your subconscious mind and using your modalities; seeing, hearing, and feeling to experience the new possibilities and getting some agreement taking place within your subconscious mind that you really could do this, if you wanted to.

Because of Hypnotic Stage Shows we’ve seen or movies where people are hypnotized and act in ways that appear to be due to some loss of control, nothing could be further from the truth. These people are hypnotized, indeed. But, they are still in control and aware of what is happening. They could choose NOT to perform the commands of the hypnotist but they feel strongly compelled to go along with it. It’s not a spell. It’s a suggestion. And the the hypnotist is really good at phrasing things in a way that influence people and create a desire to go along with it.

We’ve all been exposed to this sort of influence in one way or another. We were influenced by our parents; which in each of our individual worlds were the greatest hypnotists of all time. Most of us are still trying to break free from the influential power their words have over us during early childhood. i.e. “Clean off your plate, there are starving people in Africa” or “We can’t afford it.” And some suggestions are downright awful; “You’re not enough” and even worse. Others have had the advantage of having great suggestions from an early age. “You’re beautiful just the way you are.” “You’re loved no matter what” These are great for ones self-worth and self-esteem.

And even as we growth up, we’re still constantly being exposed to suggestions which we “agree” or “go along with” at some level. In other words, we’re almost always being hypnotized!

Some of our personal hypnotists were our childhood friends, our teachers, our spiritual leaders, our presidents, our bosses, siblings, and of course, our spouses. Anyone who has the power to inspire you, persuade you, influence you in anyway whatsoever is in a way hypnotizing you.

So, we are ALL hypnotists. And we are all being influenced by suggestions all the time. And it’s all of those suggestions that eventually become our beliefs about ourselves and about the world.

So, when we talk about going into hypnosis, the only difference between that and what you experience in your day to day life, is that it’s deliberate, you’re aware that you are doing it, and there is an intention.
