Therapy
You will get in touch with the part of you who likes to procastinate
or is sometimes lazy, preventing you from having the needed motivation
to complete your goal. You will find out why the part holds you back,
renegociate a new motivated behavior with your part.
Sometimes
it can be very difficult to keep yourself motivated. The first problem
most folks run into with regard to motivation is that they find themselves
in a situation where they feel stuck, confused, tired, and continue
to put something off until it absolutely HAS to get done. This is understandable
when it comes to paying bills or taxes, cleaning, or other types of
chores that are inherently not much fun. The type of motivation I would
like to discuss is the kind of motivation that you need to fulfill a
goal that is important to you, such as your work in your career. And
the first thing you should ask yourself is if you are in the right type
of job? Is your work truly fulfilling or do you think you can do better.
If you are not in the right type of job, look at your lack of motivation
as a sign that it might be time for a change.
However, for those who know they are doing what they want to be doing and are still finding it difficult to stay focused and motivated … I offer a few tips.
Wake
up early:
This has always worked for me. As much as I am not much of a morning
person, I find the earlier I wake up the more I get accomplished. The
biggest names in motivational speaking all seem to have that in common
as well. They have their early morning alone time to really think about
thinks and collect their thoughts and imagine how their day will go.
Exercise:
A body in motion stays in motion! Another great way to have motivation
is to get the energy flowing through your body. Exercising makes you
feel good. It stimulates the endorphin system, creating a natural high
and a zest for life. Even as little as a 20 minute walk, preferably
done in the morning can help you to get the day off to a good start.
Make
a List:
Sometimes it’s difficult to get started on an idea or a project
or to take a bite out of the things you have to do because you think
there is so much more to do that you don’t know where to begin.
When you feel overwhelmed and you know this is playing a role in your
motivational levels, I can’t emphasis enough how helpful it is
to sit down and put it all down on paper. You will realize that there
probably isn’t quite as much to do as you originally thought,
for one. But, you will also become more motivated as you see yourself
ticking off all the items on your to do list that you will naturally
want to check off more.
Get
Organized:
Of course, there is nothing more energy zapping than a bunch of papers
piled up on your desk that you don’t know what to do with them
all. Establish a system for yourself to help you to reduce that cluttered
look. Make it a priority to go through your to do pile now and look
at each thing once only; toss it, file it, or do it and be done with
it.
Take
time for yourself:
There is a part of you that needs to be acknowledged from time to time
and that is the part of you that likes to just relax or have fun. If
you don’t make this time for yourself, then what good is life
anyway? If you are just busy and working and doing stuff all the time.
Make yourself the first priority. Either take time daily, just 30 minutes
or so to relax. Or take time weekly to go do something fun. You will
find that the part of you that makes you procrastinate, most likely
does so because you haven’t let yourself give in to being able
to just live a little.
Set
Limits:
Do you get caught up in long-winded conversations with clients and find
that you may need to call them but, you end up putting it off because
you know that the conversation is going to take a long time. Usually
this will happen with sales people, being overly polite or repaying
for the sales that they generate with their time and energy. Realize
that your time is value and your services and products that you sell
are valuable as well. Be up front with people from the start. Tell them
that you only have a limited amount of time to talk but you wanted to
give them a call.
