So often, people think of stress relief as something that can be managed with drugs (prescription or not), alcohol, or other substances. Some people use television to numb themselves from the effects of stress, or surf the net for hours. In my case, none of these are valid options. As a graduate student, new mother, wife, and self-employed consultant, I don't have the luxury of dealing with stress in these ways. Every spare minute I have is consumed with "catching up" on an endless to-do list that keeps growing and seems bottomless all at once. Needless to say, my stress level is at an all-time high!

I only listened to this once, and it made a difference. My little one was crying all day long, the phone was ringing off the hook, I'm behind on a major project, and the better part of my day was spent with baby "throw-up" in my hair and a pile of laundry that has still yet to folded from last Friday! As soon as the baby went down for a nap, I plugged in my earphones and gave this recording a whirl.

When it was done and the baby woke up, I got her bathed, took a shower, did the dishes, fed her, put her to bed, discussed our moving and holiday plans with my husband (always a tense conversation there!), and wrote this review. Now, I'm going to work on that project I fell behind on, and network a little online to advance my career. Five hours ago I felt like crying, and now I feel as though it's really not so bad, and I can manage.

Granted, this doesn't reduce stress the way a bottle of wine does, or a guilty-pleasure movie marathon might, it's more like a good friend that helps you to unload, then motivates you to get back into things with a clear head and a better outlook on the situation. It leave you feeling like you sat with a good friend for several hours over a cup of tea, talked about your problems, had some laughs, and then felt ready to go back out and face the world.

I will definitely be listening to this on a regular basis!
