Accepting versus Resisting

When we are faced with an issue in our lives, for example maybe you want to lose weight, or maybe you have found yourself single and you want to change that, or perhaps you have fallen ill … our first inclination is to resist that change.

We want to push it as far away as possible and DO something to make it different than it is.

And this is called resistance. Resistance is a form of denial. You’re not happy with the situation as it is and you want to CHANGE it, FIX it, and make it not be whatever it is.

What’s wrong with that you ask? Of course if something is not working in your life, of course, you want to change it. Why not?

As a matter of fact, change is the one thing that is constant. We are always changing. Nothing is fixed. It’s all very translucent and your experience is fluid. Given that there is truth in that statement, it makes sense that if we are able to be more flexible and embrace change, the better off we will be.

You see, it’s not to say that you want to do nothing and just stay stuck in wherever you are. I’m not saying that even one little bit.

What I am saying is that in order to get from Point A to Point B … you have to fully accept that you are at point A. You’ve probably heard the saying, what you resist persists?

What makes that true? (Now we’re getting to the heart of the matter). And the heart IS the matter. You have your heart set on something. Something else gets in the way. And then next thing you notice is that you are caught in a battle of pushing away whatever seems to be in your way. But, here’s the thing … the more you try to push it away, the more you attach yourself to it. Why?

It has to do with Law of Attraction. You see, if you COULD just accept and allow whatever is in your way to just BE, you wouldn’t have any more emotion tied to it. But, because maybe you haven’t surrendered to that thing that you don’t want to because you are afraid you’ll just stay stuck there if you let go of it … you are keeping it even more tightly in place.

It’s all a matter of your perception that is keeping you stuck there.

Many people who have tried to lose weight have failed at it because they feel so disgusted with their bodies. They haven’t just allowed their bodies to be “out of shape” or “fat” even though they are. Again, it’s a form of denial. It’s a form of rejection.

It wasn’t until my clients fully embraced their existing weight, their existing bodies, their existing challenges with food, that they began to shed the pounds. And magically, as soon as they felt that moment when they knew who they were inside this body they had created through their own behavior … once they accepted that fully, they took off the weight.

It’s like coming in and telling me, well I ate salad all week and I still didn’t lose the weight. But, they deleted the part about eating a few chocolate chip cookies. If you’re not admitting the truth to yourself, how can you change this?

And it goes for anything. If you’re trying to attract anything at all, such as a business endeavor, a relationship, money … nothing changes about that situation until accept what is.

Take a moment now to do that …

Say … “Even though I … I deeply and completely love and accept myself and I choose to let this go.”

Say … “Even though I (am afraid) … I choose to be open and surrender.”

Say … “Even though I (can’t let go) … I am okay with myself.”

If you just say a few of these affirmations … and in EFT we tap special points on the body while saying these phrases, it can really get you to affirm yourself in this present state and once you have let go of that resistance and start accepting yourself, you’ll be surprised at just how fast you get into the flow of creating what you really want.
