The Importance Of Yoga For Weight Loss

Have you ever considered the importance of yoga for weight loss?

For years, many people have come to conclude that yoga has an ability to build strength, tone muscles and make the body flexible. And in recent years, some people even promote the idea of practicing yoga for losing weight. Although you can’t deny the fact that most people practicing yoga indeed possess great muscle definition and low body fat, it is prudent to examine if yoga indeed promotes weight loss to people. Studying the effect of yoga for weight loss is necessary before one can assume that yoga indeed promotes the loss of weight.

Is Yoga For Weight Loss Just A Fad?

In reality, the cardiovascular effect and strain that yoga induces to the body is not enough to produce a significant effect for burning fats. But because of the way that the art of practicing yoga goes, you can see that most people practicing yoga indeed possess a firm and toned body composition.

Because yoga is all about maximizing the control and flexibility of the muscles in the body, the isometric training promoted by yoga helps in toning and strengthening the muscles of our entire body. And when a person develops more muscles, it is a known fact that his body burns more fuel in order to maintain those muscles.

Although this exact phenomenon of building and toning muscles can easily be replicated by weight training, another thing that makes yoga very good for weight loss is the “mind conditioning” aspect of practicing this exercise. Because yoga requires a person to focus and take away all the outside noise, the mindset of control and focus is translated not only in the exercise but in other aspects of a person’s life as well. The strength to resist the urge to do bad habits and to follow a strict eating pattern can easily be acquired through the practice of yoga alone. Just like self hypnosis, yoga opens up the power of using the mind in order to control the functions of the body. Yoga for weight loss is indeed a viable idea and by combining yoga with self-hypnosis, your body is even primed for better results.

  • I have done yoga since I was ten years old. Last fall I was in an awful car accident and could not workout. I quickly gained 40 pounds and after physical therapy, could not wait to return to yoga. I am taking a gentle yoga class and already dropped 10 pounds. It does encourage a healthier lifestyle and definitely helps me manage my weight.
